Be prepared to choose flight times that are within the timeframes for van pickup.

You may arrive at the airport anytime before 4pm but below is suggested for Tampa residents based on current flights.

What to Bring/ Weather?

Weather in the mountains in the summertime is very mild and ideal as it is usually nice and cool in the mornings & evenings!

The day-time can be hot! Have plenty of shorts, tank tops, bathing suits, etc and especially clothes that can be layered. Light colors vs. dark/black are always recommended for the hotter times of day.

A hat/cap is a great idea for light rain and sun!

A headlamp is highly recommended as well as a watch.

We will be in a rainforest so bring raincoats and gear for rain that may come and go.

Lightweight hiking boots, especially low-tops like Merrell’s or even shoes with a good grip are recommended.

Please take the time to break in new shoes, boots, and even sandals like Teva’s as they can cause blisters otherwise. Test your footwear and make sure you feel comfortable hiking a few miles in them.

Bring some comfy clothes for the evenings/mornings, some sweats or pants and hoodies are ideal.

What if I want to drive or get a rental car?

The roads to the retreat house are mountain roads, so they can be windy and the driveway at the retreat house is gravel on an incline and requires 4 wheel drive vehicles to go up it. A suburu, van, or SUV are examples of vehicles that should be okay to go up the driveway. A few vehicles may be able to be parked at the bottom of the driveway if you do not have the appropriate vehicle.

You are free to get a rental car if you’d like but we are providing transportation for the entire experience so we can move together as a group and also keep a closed container where we are all in sync and following the retreat schedule.

We don’t recommend Uber because since it’s one hour + away from the airport, many drivers would reject the ride. That being said, someone may eventually accept the ride, but this may take several tries, so probably not the best method, which is why we are providing transportation services as a part of your investment.

Can I request to be in the same room as a friend?

Yes. If you are bringing a friend let us know the names ASAP and we will try to accommodate you! This is also a chance to meet new friends and plenty come on their own without knowing anyone, so don’t worry if you are coming solo, you’ll be received with open arms!!

Do I need to be in shape?

We will be doing a lot of walking and hiking up a mountain. It is important that you are able to comfortably walk miles at a time. It is not expected that we will go on all day long hikes that are over 5 miles, but we do expect to experience a variety of hikes on the property and off that call upon you to be in good walking shape. If you live in a flat area, it’s always a great idea to add some uphill walking up parking garages or adding an incline to a treadmill or using a stairmaster while preparing for this trip. It’s definitely not necessary to train like you are going to be in a race or walk up the Grand Canyon, but it is important to be in good walking shape and make an effort to ensure that before the trip. Consult with your doctor if you have back pain or other issues exacerbated by walking.

Our planned hike to Max Patch is a 1.5-mile loop trail. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 25-30 min to summit, walking uphill through the woods and then reaching the higher peaks.
